How to Make a Convenient Convertible Cube Seat

This tutorial video will show you how to make a convenient convertible cube seat. Doing this simple craft activity can really help transform any living space, while adding to your collection of DIY home décor.

Supplies Needed

1 - 16x16 Piece of Upholstery Foam, 2 inches thick

4 - 1" Plastic Swivel Casters

4 - 18x18 Wood Planks, 1 inch thick
2 - 16x18 Wood Planks, 1 inch thick
1 - 16x16 Wood Plank, 1/4 inch thick
1 - Square Piece of Fabric
Wood Glue
Hammer
Nails
Paint Brush
Wood Conditioner
Wood Stain
Wood Sealer
Sand Paper
Spray Adhesive
Heavy Duty Staple Gun
Screwdriver


Step by Step Instructions

Assembling The Cube:
1) Make the perimeter of your cube by using wood glue to attach two 18x18 planks and two 16x18 planks.
2) Once the wood glue is dry, reinforce the glued areas with nails every 2 inches.
3) On one of the open sides, apply glue to the edges of the planks, and place an 18x18 plank on top.
4) Once the wood glue is dry, reinforce with nails every 2 inches.
5) Sand down the entire cube.
6) Wipe off any debris left from sanding.
7) Apply Wood Conditioner, then Wood Stain, then Wood Seal, allowing to dry in between (remove any excess with a cloth).

Creating The Cube Lid:
1) Repeat step #7 above on a separate 18x18 plank.
2) Take a 16x16 plank, and apply spray adhesive all over one of the sides.
3) Attach a 16x16 foam piece, and allow to dry.
4) Cut a piece of fabric slightly bigger than the 16x16 foam piece.
5) Place this seat piece foam side down on the square piece of fabric.
6) Fold up the sides of the fabric over the plank, and staple around the edges of the wood to upholster.
7) On the 18x18 plank in step #1, measure 1 inch around from the outside edges.
8) Sand the 18x18 plank slightly so the wood glue sticks, and wipe away any excess shavings.
9) Add glue to the back of the upholstered cushion, and apply glue side down to the center of the 18x18 wood plank. Allow 24 hours to fully dry.
10) On the bottom of the cube, screw each of the 4 plastic swivel casters on each corner.
