Raised Dog Food Bowls

Raised Dog Food Bowls

One of more beneficial purchases I’ve made for my Golden Lab is his set of raised dog food bowls. In considering whether to get raised dog bowls versus a regular dog bowls, there are some underlying health benefits with the elevated option, which may not be so easy to see.

Elevated dog bowls can provide a number of benefits for you and your pup. Some of these advantages are thought to offer health benefits, while others simply make your life easier.

The other day around mealtime, I opened up the pantry door to grab my dog’s food like I normally do. Everything seemed fine, and he was eating like usual, but I did notice something a little different this time around. As he is an older dog, he was starting to struggle with arthritis pain and mobility issues in his joints, which made him become more hesitant to lean down to eat from his regular bowl.

I ended up speaking to my local veterinarian and he told me this was typical for older dogs, and recommended maybe purchasing a raised food bowl. I had never thought of using raising his dog food bowl, and always thought my dog was fine eating out of his regular bowl.

It’s obvious now why elevated food bowls are good for large breed dogs. Vets recommend these types of feeders for larger dogs because it elevates the food to their level, helping them to eat more comfortably. There can be a lot of stress and strain on a larger dog’s back, neck, and shoulders when they have to bend all the way down to the ground to reach their bowls for every meal.

Older dogs who may be experiencing arthritic pain can benefit from these types of bowls, as they won’t have to reach down to eat, giving them much needed relief. Younger dogs may also benefit by helping to prevent arthritis from setting in early on.

Since my dog already had early stages of arthritis, buying an elevated food bowl just made things easier for him.
